    Default 2.0ltr dti mpg

    Hi guys,
I'm doin dual carriage way every day to and from work, 2days ago I put 20 quid in and got 10ltrs. Fuel light came on this morning only done 70miles, by my calculations its 33mpg. The best I've had is 42 and only once. On average its 38-40. Surely this should be doin a lot more?
Anyone got any tips that I can look at? By the way I'm no mechanic but with the right instructions ill try anything.
The cars done 123k and on 54plate

    Thanks

    Just noticed that!

I'd expect about 70-80 miles to 10 litres on a DTi

    10 litres = 2.25gallons ish.

    2.25 x 45mpg = 1oo miles ish.

gotta be worth giving it a good service with decent oil, checking your thermostat is working, buying lighter shoes and stop pretending you're the stig in civvies lol

My 2.0 DTi is kinda the same at the moment. I used to get 47-8 mpg average, 50+ on a motorway run, for the past 3-4 months its 39-40 mpg, maybe 42 on a run.
Car has done just over 70K.
Haven't changed its usage or my driving habits.
I use millers ecomax most times that i fuel up.
I've changed the oil and all filters myself, used GM 5w30 and all GM filters. Checked all the vacuum and boost hoses.
I've cleaned the boost sensor, gonna check the EGR at the weekend. tbh, inside the throttle body was pretty clean, so I'm not expecting it to be too bad.
I'm also going to check the brakes aren't binding.
When I changed the fuel filter, it was very black with oily sludge on it. I'm assuming injector seals are leaking a bit, would this effect mpg?
Any other ideas would be great.

Thanks for the replies. It was serviced when I bought it just under a year ago, well susposidly by the garage I got it from. Driving like the stig, those days have gone mate, can't afford the fuel now lol. I can get some castrol oil on offer in asda for a tenner for 5ltrs instead of 20quid ill pik up a couple of bottles and get my mate to service it for me.
any particular filters I should get or just the usual u get from motor shops will do?

thermostat is a good one. if it's not working right it'll really affect economy.
also- winter diesel doesn't help as it is thinned with kerosene and is used faster as a result.
