Default Which Engine Oil? 1.9 cdti

So with my new car purchase im going crazy and got my self a list of things "to do" Even though its had them recently, i prefere to know things are done properly.

I have been looking today, and there seems to be some different views on what oil is best.

Looking to give the car an oil change this weekend its part of my List to do, What engine oil is best for this engine? (if it makes any difference, my todo list next is a remap)

I would always advise a new sump plug too knowing how these can get VERY tight..

Remember 6 sided ring spanner or socket ONLY to remove the sump plug to not to round it off..

Thanks for the quick reply, Ive got the filter/o Ring already just looking at which oil is best. Forgot about sump plug though!

Is it best to use the VX Oil? or would Castrol Edge 5w30 be just as good?

If its vaux stuff, looks like a trip to the dealer.

The GM oil is very competitively priced - I buy 4 tubs at a time via Trade Club and get 4 for the price of 3 if the offer is still running. Castrol will no doubt be of equal quality

i too use vx stuff or ford 5w/30 fully synth which can be got off ebay, both are the same spec and im sure most 5w/30 fully synthetic will be fine. most oils come from a very limited number of places and are bought by companies rebranded and sold for the highest price that brand will sell for. main dealer prices will allways be high because people percieve they are getting a better product but the dealers sell to the trade at about 50% of the retail cost so they cant be paying that much for the oil themselves so is it really any better?????

Booked in at local VX Dealer for early next week.

I was kind of baffled when i called them,

I got a price on parts, they priced me for what they would do, (Oil, Filter, Seal and sump plug)

Came to a total of £69.95 inc VaT

    OR

I could have them do the oil change, Doing the above (i did ask, and i know chances are they wont change the sump plug/filter seal) for a grand total of......... £51.70

So, They can do it as long as they use the right stuff (which im sure they will be)
