    and for being on the phone and driving first offence £1000. fine second offence one year ban bring it on mr clarke...........

    £60 is nothing, not high enough and no deterrent. £199 might make everyone think twice before driving like a chav.

    and yes - the current "mobile phone driver" penalty is nowhere near fitting for the crime. should be instant ban for using hand held phone while driving - it's as bad as being drunk behind the wheel - FACT!

    i had no idea what the current fine was as i have never had one, I did think it was alot higher or means tested... Not bothered really, if you get caught you pay the fine, same as any other offence..

    Its not just the £60 fine though is it ,its the hike in Insurance costs for the next 5 yrs to be factored in as well.
