Lightbulb Anyone from the Poole Area?

Me and the missus have been thinking about a change of scenery and have been thinking about poole. Does anyone know what the area is like, or what i'm really trying to get at is, is it expensive? Could do with any info good or bad.

    Cheers,

    Orka

I live in Christchurch about 15 miles East of Poole.
Like a lot of places its a town of three thirds, you have the great (sea-view areas, and the Sandbanks (The world's most expensive land per sq ft alledgedly)), and you have the bad (areas surrounding those that kind of hang on and perhaps get a bit run down) and the ok (bits inbetween).
Poole town is a mess IMO
But 'the bits inbetween' can be lovely, depends on your budget and needs though eh... you're best checking out rightmove.co.uk or something to see how far you buck would go.... I paid £230k for a run down 3 bed detached with garage & 100ft garden in a cul-de-sac 2 years ago....and I'm hoping that would see about £270k now with some work done etc...

The really good aspects though are: sunny clean beaches, 15 minutes from Bournemouth, Bournemouth airport, 20 minutes from New Forest, 35 mins from Southampton, Southampton airport, Weymouth, Dorchester and the rest of the gorgeous countryside, and with the A35 and connecting B roads some interesting drives.
Average connection to the north, good connection to east and west
Speed cameras are pretty common though....
Schools all seem to be much of a muchness but in a good way.

West Dorset came 10th I think in the recent top 10 places to live in the UK, Eastleigh was 9th and Winchester 1st (!) so to live in and around these areas can't be bad....although with that success comes infuriating traffic at normal times, and beyond comprehension during the holiday period!!.....and at all times you have to deal with the 'retired' factor, those of an elderley nature who drive to a different tune shall we say.... no offence meant....nobody's perfect....
