    Default 1.8vvt Performance

I see lots of threads on here about how it is underpowered and do not understand it. Yes it is not as fast as other Vectras but it is not a slow underpowered car like some make out.

Against other cars it will keep up with a 2.0 passat and can easily stay on the tail of 150 diesel up to 60mph to the surprise of many owners on here, despite what the figures say... It handles a ALOT better than other vectras because of how much lighter it is (all the weight of the heavier engines is caried up front)

Yes it is not a sports car but if you are prepared to rev it up a bit it will shift. The only thing I will say it that if you do the fuel consumption is terrible, but driven gently its fuel consumption is good....

Finally when they have been put on rollers most of these vvt's make 150hp as standard, which is a lot for a 1.8 and more than its 140hp rating....

Top speed is over 130mph book and it will actually do a lot more, and 0-60 less than 10 seconds. Not a sports car, but for a base engine it is not slow and certainly not underpowered....

I completely agree with you mate. Although I don't own a 1.8 (I have the Z22SE 2.2) it is only 4 bhp down on the 2.2 despite being 400cc smaller. You wouldn't even notice that on the road. My 2.2 has kept pace with cars that on paper it shouldn't have. My friend has a 244 bhp Omega MV6 and if he lets me put my foot down first he struggles to catch me off the lights to around 50-60. Obviously he will leave me standing no problems above that but that is with around 100 bhp more.

I agree with you, I bought a 1.8 VVT for all those reasons, dont want an unreliable oil burner, not interested in trying to put over 200bhp down through the front wheels.

I needed a large economical car, that has enough poke to get my out of trouble if needed. Can enjoy driving without the fear of a DMF failing or an EGR or a DPF which most modern diesels seem to have problems with (check out the Pug 407's if you think you have troubles).

So, whilst we all have our own opinions on which version is the best, can we stop knocking each others cars and choices. Afterall we all have one thing in common, we all chose a Vectra!!!

    God help us all!!!

Very underrated engine IMO. Not slow at all, and having had a 1.9 CDTi I can confirm I'd much rather have the 1.8 petrol.

In the Insigina however, it's dangerously slow.

    I love my 1.8 vvt.

Does what I need it to do.

With the price of fuel I find myself now driving like a grandad anyhow so the extra horses would be wasted on me.

1.8 is perfectly acceptable for a Vectra. It's not that they're slow, it's just a diesel has more Torque so it can feel quicker. I chose diesel for economy. No other reason.

    Be thankful this isn't the 80's, F**D made a Sierra with a 1.3 - really.

It does get thirsty if you put the pedal to the metal! Ive been running a 1.8 VVTi for over 3 years now and I have no problems with it, it does handle very well and because it is lighter than most it has an edge 'Off the lights' over the CDTi 150 and the odd 1.8/2.0 standard car of the same size, not sure about mid-top end but my mate has the 150 and he's never seen me in his rear view.......yet! The only down side is you cant really do a lot to give it more power without spending £££££s, but in that case, you would of looked at something more powerful if you fancied more wooooosh!
