Is this it? And if so, what is the correct temperature stat that I need?

It's not so much the temperature you need to worry about, it's the fit - if you buy one designed for your engine then the opening temperature will be correct anyway.

Now can anyone confirm the pictures are where the thermostat is?

D/K for sure but your pic matches the thermostat housing pictured in my Haynes manual.
    HTH.

Thanks for confirming. Couple of other questions:-

    1. Can I just buy the stat on its own, or does it have to be the housing as well?

    2. Are the two 10 mm bolts prone to being siezed and snapping off easily? I'm speaking from experience of changing the stat on an old Cavalier a few years ago. Doesn't look like there is much room to get a drill and tap in there if I needed to.

Just the stat mate, although the stat could be ok, the seal can perish and let water through that way, it seams to have affected a few older 2.2's. As for the bolts, mines a 53 plate and they cane out fine and ive not seen any others fail on the forums.

    Cheers Rushy.

Priced up the parts though autovaux - £54.23 (inc vat + p&p), for a stat, seal, and 5 litres of antifreeze.

My local dealer want £71.46 for the same parts. Just waiting for them to come back to me as to whether they'll accept my Masterfit Service Clubcard which will give me 20% off, which will bring it down to £57.17 (£2.94 more than autovaux). They have done previously, but seem reluctant to do so this time. I did get offered a traders 10% off deal - lol. I asked them why would I want that when my service clubcard will give me 20%?
Their other dealership 10 miles away is a masterfit outlet, and they said it might be better to order the parts through them to get the 20% discount, although they'll get the parts from us anyway!! Crazy or what.

I have been told however that the stat from autovaux won't be a genuine Vx one though.

My dealer gave me the following part numbers:
    Stat 90537811. 94 deg C (£45.12)
    Seal 3522676 (£8.40)
    5 litres of antifreeze £17.94

The Stat I got from Autovaux was a genuine GM Stat, just ask them, most of the time for parts like that they have gen in. I paid exactly the same as you for all the same parts.
