    Default slick-50

    is it any good?
does it do what its supposed to do?
is there any downsides to using it?

i was thinking of getting some as my local car shops doing it cheap.

Used it years ago when I had a Mk1 Astra 1.3.

Bought the car at 28,000 miles. Added the slick at 40,000 miles and drained at next service. Sold the car with 104,000 miles several years later. Engine used less than ½ litre of oil between 6,000 mile oil changes. Engine often thrashed (ie, well into the red line of the rpm dial)

i have used it on all but one of my cars and all have lasted very well engine wise with not internal repairs needed and all running sweet when sold on.. the only time i didn't was on my GTO coz that was a bag of **** from the start so was not worth it as i was desperate to get rid of it.

i think the slick50 stuff coats the engine internals with a teflon coat which helps reduce engine wear and helps with economy.. there is always a case for and against as companies want you to use their products or say they are not compatible, but i only treat them the once and change my oil every 6k, so the coat is on and new engine oil is put in 4 months later..

My personal and professional opinion is not to bother.
Modern engine oils do exactly the job they are designed to do.

I have not used any oil additive in mine, chnaged it at the max 20,000 miles interval and it still sounds and goes fine at 182,000 miles.

my car is quite highly tuned and all that extra bhp i have is used and enjoyed almost daily so I will take extra measure to protect my engine, i don't have miss daisy sat in the back.. never had an issue so far so i feel the benefits..

there are obviously other reviews for the product..
    Code:
    http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/114371/reviews.htm
I will continue to use it on future engines, only really needs doing the once..

pro's n con's innit nige.... i suppose the theory is right that if it was that good or did any good, the manufacturers of engine oils would put it in and then sell the oil for more money but they dont.

Same goes for me, except that unlike Ste, I do not work in engine development. I'd like to change my oil a lot more often to help to cleanse the engine of deposits and build-up and I am going to start doing this from the end of this month, at least for a few successive oil changes.

My GSi doesn't get thrashed often but I do love to open her up every once in a while. She uses perhaps half a litre of oil every year or 20,000 miles, at an educated guess. Not bad for a 130,000-miler!

You need a "Not really interested in trying it" voting option.
