    Default water and oil

    Good day one and all,

Got a 1.8 2003 and have a couple of curious issues and just looking for anybodies thoughts / experiences / advice.

It is losing water/coolant rapidly and also losing oil at a slower rate, not a rocket science question but here's the issue - I have no leaks!!

Due to have the cam belt, water pump and stat being replaced hopefully real soon - mates rates - and hoping this will cure the water problem but cant explain the oil thang.

Took the car on a healthy run over weekend - approx 400 miles and it didnt miss a beat and sounded ok, no noisy unusual sounds from engine.

    Cheers for any help.

    Tony

Suspect head gasket. Early signs of failure

    Thanks for the quick responses.

Oil and water haven't mixed either way.

Exhaust smoke - haven't seen a lot tbh but the little bit I think I might of seen is white - but thought that may of been due the choke still in operation.

The car hasn't been properly run in approx 18 - 24 months prior to me getting it.

Check the carpet, you may not have a leak in the engine bay, but possibly one inside the car to the heater matrix?

Check the radiator, edge where the metal meets the plastic section. It's a common place for corrosion to cause a leak.

How often are you having to top up the oil? Is the warning coming up on the dash?

At this time of the year most cars will have mayo. Don't mean to say the HG is gone though.

Before starting off on a 200 mile round trip (mainly motorway) the other day, I wiped the mayo off the filler cap and dipstick of my 2.2 direct. Next day it was back again.

Will check rad edge and all over tbh.

Checked oil before trip and it was on max, about 100 miles into journey the warning light (orange) flashed up on dash, stopped and topped up with 3/4 L and carried on.
Checked it the following day and topped it back up with the remaining 1/4 L that was left.
The return trip I got to approx 20 miles from home and topped up again with 3/4 L.

Def haven't had and mayo on dipstick or filler cap though.

    Cheers for the replies all.
