Rear Wiper Problem

Ever since the heavy snow at the beginning of last year, my rear wiper has been problematic.

When I hit the stalk to turn it on, instead of doing a full sweep, the wiper gets part way across the window and then stops. A few seconds later it starts again, does another part sweep and stops somewhere else on the window and so on.

I'm not sure how the intermittant wipe works on the rear window. Is this a simple mechanical problem or would the entire motor need changing?

Maybe the motor gears and the 'park' position switch need a stripdown, clean and regrease?
Or maybe a 'new' one...

Does it still get 'stuck' if you hold the stalk away from you - ie when the washer also comes on?
