    Default Red V5C

Have you received your Red V5C document from the DVLA yet?

Apparently all Blue V5C (registration certificates) are being replaced due to theft of blank blue V5C forms.

Its never ending.... what happens when theives steal the red ones as well

    Jeeze

Also, on the new Red forms it has written in big letters across it

THIS DOCUMENT IS NOT PROOF OF OWNERSHIP

So what is proof of ownership then ??

yeah got mine, I asked the dealer I bought the car from and they still consider the V5 to be the proof of ownership. (even though it's just stated as the registered keeper - it's the most important doc for the vehicle.)

V5 just states who the recorded keeper is, not always the owner!

The receipt from where/who you bought it from is proof of ownership. Same with everything else you own, it's proof you have paid for it.

The last post on page one says the V5 has never been proof of ownership.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

yep got mine and a new style MOT cert - looks fake just being white paper with black text - doesnt look official at all. The proof of ownership threw me a bit, but guess it only states the 'registered keeper' not owner. Presumably even if you do a HPI check to check there is no outstanding finance on a car, if the person you are buying from is named on the V5 how on earth do you know if it is actually there car to sell

As Big Sig says a receipt/invoice is proof, but the receipt for my car is half a page of a4 paper with some scribble on saying my name, the sellers name and address and how much I paid - I could knock one of those up in 30 seconds for any car!!

Just because you paid for it and have a receipt doesn't mean you own it at all.

The Police will happily take your car from you whether you have a receipt or not, especially if it was stolen in the first place. Known to you or not.

So what is proof of ownership then and where does it come from? If the V5C Registration Document tells you only who's in charge of taxing it. lol

I paid for my 08 plate Vectra I just gave to my partner, but I don't own it as I gave her it. Spoons has a valid point.
