Default Change tax class/dealer tax car for me?

    Hi folks,

Put deposit down on my 2nd Vectra today good feeling miss my old one and this one a facelift sri with sat nav model in misty morning grey, so nice spec and rare colour which is nice!

The tax has run out and it is currently taxed under disabled so this needs changed back to normal private and a years tax putting on, since I am part-ex my current car I can't change insurance until pick the vectra up, and so on. since its more complicated, don't have reminder and need tax class changed this is a DVLA job, given that the local office is near me but 40 miles from garage i am not going to drive the car un taxed, can the dealer do this type of stuff for me? at the post office or something?
going to give them a ring tomorrow see what they say, have been really helpful so far, and didn't think about it till got home

most dealers will usually tax put tax on the car using their traders policy, at your expense though.

dayinsure is also useful for picking cars up if you don't want to insure straight away.

Agreed, the sales person / dealership should be handling all of this

They should also issue you and agreed to a vehicle handover date, which you then provide to your current insurer
This allows you to drive both vehicles throughout that specific day and at any time
The outgoing vehicle policy is amended to terminate at the end of that day and the incoming vehicle is added to that policy commencing on that day

As an aside, it is illegal to include the RFL (Road Tax) as part the sale price, it MUST be displayed separately within the agreement
The usual default is 6 months minimum, which some dealerships include free
The vehicle also needs to be added into MID

Therefore, phone up the sales person / dealership they day before to make sure all the documents and Tax Disc are in order, correct, and ready
Once they have confirmed this, you can then phone your insurance company to process the policy amendment
The following morning you can then check on MID

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago when picking up a vehicle
    "Yes, the vehicle is ready"
However when I arrived at 10:00 (as agreed) the Tax Disc hadn't been purchased and they sent someone out to buy it!
"What was the point of me phoning yesterday and making a collection time of 10:00?"

will have a chat with them, if its a dvla office only job which I think it may be, I wont blame them for saying they can't or don't want todo it, its about 90 mile round trip and a pain to get to it, just don't want the dvla messing around with stupid stuff, personally i feel that its stupid that you can't pick up a car, drive to the dvla office/post office and tax the car, they be getting over 2 weeks road tax money for free anyway

Thanks for all the advice, i have in the past had so many problems taxing cars, so am expecting problems with this one just from past experience.

yep the first time you tax the car it needs to be done at the dvla office or you can do it by post, its because of the disabled tax disc

The garage has to tax the car for you .Albeit at your expense .They are not allowed to sell a non taxed car .

Mine was done reverse, plg to disabled, at the local post office, by the dealer. It can be done and they should be sorting it out for you - I didn't even have to ask, they offered.
As for the insurance, surprised your insurers won't give you a cover note for one afternoon/morning. Might be worth asking the dealer if they do a one day insurance, think I got a weeks worth free to give me time to sort it out. Had to go onto Vx website to claim it, not complicated.
