confused I cant get my EGR out yo clean it, advice needed!!

    hi folks,
I tried getting my EGR out to clean it while I was changing my thermostat but it wouldn't budge. It moved a few mm to the right then It took me ages just to get it back in position so I could get the bolts back in.

I was wondering if i'd be able to clean the inside of the EGR If i took off the manifold the tha egr is attached to- or is is there no way of getting to the gubbings that need cleaning???

    Any advice greatly appreciated

Im not sure about the dti ones, I know on the CDTi it's 6 bolts, two 13mm on the top and 4 10mm at the rear which secure into the manifold.
There must be a "how to" for the dti version somewhere, I would ad a link but im on my phone

I think the first time I took it out I needed a soft mallet to loosen it, and keep working it left to right to remove. Was a pain in the backside.

I did't want to risk breaking it- i managed to move it a touch but its so tight and almost impossible to grab properly as the cooling spigots get in the way and are too weak to use as levers.

would trying it when the car is properly warm make it easier???

It almost blew my head as it was such a wind up!!!

It is probably the coke itself that is stopping you from removing the egr , remove the top manifold you can then get to the top of the egr .
You should then be able to work the egr back and forwards to get it loose .
Spraying some carb cleaner into the port should also help loosen it up .
