    Default Plasma Dials

    Hi all,

Firstly let me just introduce myself as im new to the Vauxhall scene, and just had my Vectra C 1.8 Sri for about two weeks now.

So im a noob to this site and starting to work around slowly but, now cant find what im looking for so if need of some help:

I just brought some Plasma dials for my Veccy:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2904880866...ht_3272wt_1344

They arrived this morning and on inspection look the mutts nuts. Anyway does anyone have a step by step guide on removing the dials? Or can tell me how its done, or even offer their services?

Also, im planning to upgrade the original CD30 unit with a CD70 and heard about marriage and divorce, can someone shed some light on this and maybe offer for sale a CD70 with the colour screen?

You don't need to remove the steering wheel to get the dials out. Just adjust it as far out and down as it will go and the dials will squeeze past it when you've done the other bits.

Remove the top cowling, remove the two dash strips (as shown in the pics above), unclip the extending surround at the bottom, then two screws and the dials pull out enough to reach round and unclip the mulitplugs. Job done

    'Marriage and Divorce'

The current 'anti-theft' thinking is to electronically 'pair' components to each other and to the car - put simply, the various ECU's check everything connected to them, not only for faults but also for presence and identity. So if someone breaks into your car and rips out the stereo... it's useless without the paired screen.
To remove a screen or stereo from a vehicle safely, you must plug in a suitable computer device and electronically set the relevent devices to 'delivery mode' so they will not 'lock' when they are powered up and suddenly find they're not connected to what they think they should be.
To fit a screen or stereo to a vehicle (assuming they're in delivery mode) once connected up they should be programmed via a suitable computer device to recognise each other.
Hence the standard practice of removing/selling a head unit and screen as a matched pair (thus negating the need to 'divorce' a screen from a stereo and then 'marry' the two parts in the new vehicle.

    Hope that helps

I know, didn't last time I had mine out, but didn't want to be responsible for him leaving a big scratch on the top of his cowling when he tried to get the dials out

Make sure you disconnect the battery before you disconnect the Dials also the pic showing the fact there is no steering wheel doesnt mean you have to remove it. The pic is only shown without the steering wheel so as you get a better look at whats there (if you read the instructions other than look at the pics it tells you this lol) adjust the hieght of the column to its lowest position. Also use an unfolded (straightened) paper clip to remove the stalks. If you first remove the rubber gator and look at the underside and insert your paper clip in the middle groove about 2.5 inch the stalk will justlift off. Don't pull it sharply off as previously suggested by other members(although this does work could result in damage to the conections in the C.I.M. as I found loosing Cruise control and just about costing megabucks)

Lol, just shows I didn't bother reading it, just looked at the pics. However, having had the dials out loads of times on both my Vecs I can promise you, you don't need to remove the stalks either
