How do you sell a car without comeback?

Have sold many cars in the past and had a few contact saying its a mellon etc etc, obviously no car is perfect and everyone sells for a reason but how do sell without hastle? All i seem to get is foreigners who i cant understand over the phone (no disrespect to foreigners) so instantly im on my guard. Any help appreciated guys

I tend to price at the top end of value, expecting to be haggled down
Ask the buyer to bring their driving licence and a valid certificate of motor insurance to allow use of other vehicles

Whilst they are looking over the car, phone their insurance company and make sure the policy is actually valid and that they are permitted to drive your vehicle (as some providers require third party vehicles not owned by them to be authorised, or even added to policy)

Once you have agreed a price issue a receipt
This should include details that vehicle was sold as seen on [date] and is not protected by any form or type of warranty

Equally, as the seller you do NOT have to enter into a sale
I have done this before with the excuse, "I am waiting for another buyer from this morning to confirm they are still interested, they have viewed the car on behalf of a relative who is not mechanically aware, but if they fail to contact me I will get back to you" but you have to state this at the beginnning so they are aware

sold a galaxy more like a lemon at the start of last year and for the first time ever wouldnt budge on the price the bloke even started to get in his car but i knew i didnt want to loose any money on it i just wanted the same price i paid for it the week before anyway the buyer backed down and paid what i wanted

the other way i normanly sell is just wack it on ebay low to get people looking then bid it up to the minuim i want for it then wait for one more bid will win but i make sure i have all the blocks on the auction so you dont get people with no feedback bidding for fun

normanly on ebay you get people giving you daft offers you can either wind them up or tell them where to go but sometimes you get one that gives you a good offer and want you to end auction early with these i wait till they buy it before i will end anything

tail-light warranty................................as soon as your tail-lights are out of sight,thats it warranty over

traded in an sr nova years ago,the dealer didnt ask if it was damaged,so i didnt have to tell him,till the 'new' owner knocked on my door asking for me to pay for the car he had just bought

went to court where the head-honcho pointed out the trading standards law to him (buyer) & the dealer

the dealer has to ask if its damaged,if he doesnt you dont have to tell him.for the new buyer the dealer HAS to tell him

So are we saying if you have a bill of reciept stating sold as seen etc, once it leaves your drive you are not obliged to hand any money back?

sold as seen doesnt mean a thing, the only legal term you can use is "not fit for road use, sold for scrap"

As they say "caveat emptor" buyer beware.
As far as I am aware this only applies to private sales.

if you have nothing to hide I'd suggest telling the buyer to get an AA/RAC inspection before discussing or parting with any cash. if they simply take your suggestion as confirmation that the car must be 100% right- then thats their business and keep close to your asking price. if they have an inspection that throws up a few bits then adjust the price to suit. That way they can not claim you have been anything but upfront and fair.

that only works if you're not trying to shift a lemon onto another poor soul though.

Last time I checked the meaning of sold as seen was pretty clear and you can put almost anything you want on the receipt if both you and the buyer agree to them as terms of the deal. All you are doing is capturing the terms of the agreement in writing.
