Default The "I wonder what that costs to insure" thread

Out of pure boredom Ive been finding out what insurance costs would be for me on various vehicles. I know I'm not alone in doing this so thought we could maybe post our results. Im not sure if this should have gone in the insurance section but I figured that as its not really of any use, itd be ok in the general motoring section..

    57 plate Vectra VXR : £541
    07 plate Astra VXR : £507
    02 plate Golf GTI (200) : £430
    05 plate Civic TypeR : £683
    03 plate Golf R32 : £732
    07 Impreza WRX : £996

Quite impressed with the quotes for the VXR!!!

Confused doesn't check your credit rating, it's the individual insurers who will credit check you to decide on the level finance they'll give an a monthly payment scheme. According to the confused.com t&c page the credit checks happen when you apply to buy the policy and not when you search for quotes. If each insurer checked you on each quote, you'd have 120 hits on your credit profile per quote, which would do a serious amount of damage.

There's a difference between a "credit check" and a "footprint".

Credit checks assess your worthyness of monies being lent, this will not be done on any site until you decide to purchase a policy, unless they have this in their t&c's. Too many credit checks will affect your credit score, especially if the result is decline. Strangely too many approvals without the credit being taken up also affect your score.

A footprint is what most of the comparison sites do, this does not affect your credit score, and checks address etc for anti fraud purposes, but is visible to other lenders.

I may well be wrong then, apologies if I am.

Are you sure these are not noted as the purpose "Insurance Quotation" on your credit file? If so these are not classed as full searches by other lenders.

On my credit file I have had 13 full searches (visible to lenders), however in the detail if my report under "previous searches" this shows as 25, the difference being anti fraud checks done every 3 months by my employer, and searches (or footprints as commonly known) by insurance companies.
