    Unhappy Steering wheel compatibility

Hi, I have a Vectra C life pre facelift model with the tacky plastic four spoke steering wheel.

Seen some on fleabay which look better with leather and three spokes!

If I buy a three spoke leather one (from another pre facelift car) will it fit?

Will the air bag I have simply swap straight over please (the air bag shape looks quite different sadly due to having different number of spokes)?

    Thanks Chris

The steering wheel will fit, your airbag won't. Make sure it has the same stereo controls on too as some of the later prefacelift models had the full canbus and the steering wheel with the roller instead of buttons.

If you change from a 4 spoke to 3 spoke you will need to change the airbag also. Make sure and get one with the same connectors on the back of the airbag (some have one and some have two).

Stick to the prefaclift wheels (buttons for the radio instead of scroll wheels etc).

Do you know that you can buy a 4 spoke leather wheel? The signums came with these. I sourced one for my car and was able to ratain my old airbag etc...

This is mine (best shot I have)

A leather 4 spoke wheel like mine...

A good price for a three spoke with air bag (need to make sure the airbag has the same connectors as yours)

Thanks fellas, but I am a little confused still - easily done though!

I agree the four spoke leather would be ace, I'd love one, and i can see that the three spoke needs airbag with it, but......

My car is a 2005 and although prefacelift does have a scrolly thing on the wheel........

However the car has an aftermarket JVC so the steering wheel buttons and roller thing dont work anyway...........

    Erm.........

You have an early full canbus car that's all (some of the late pre-face ones are).

So you need a pre-face wheel but with full canbus controls.

Right then Chris B, by the sound sof it you have what is a full canbus prefacelift car. Do you have the original stereo to go back in the car of not? You're probably best sticking with like for like on the controls incase you want to sell the car or put a vauxhall stereo in in the future. Also you can buy a lead that will mean you can use the controls if you want to.

    Thanks chaps, you are stars!

Does sound like putting a leather four spoke with my controls and my air bag makes for the easiest option - thanks for the link to the eBay item!

Don't have a Vaux stereo just this JVC one.

I will regret asking this............ but whats the whole half and full canbus thingy please?

    Thanks again!!

right.. You have a full can bus pre face lift then.... They changed in 2004 to full can bus. I assume you had a CD30 for example before...?

Anyway... This opens the options up to you...

Not sure about a 4 spoke wheel in leather on full can bus.. they defo do the three spoke wheel.. If your spending the money try and source the VXR wheel (either from an Astra or a Vectra as both fit). You will need an airbag from a vectra to fit in what ever wheels you choose.

Failing that source an SRI wheel as it's leather... Again you will need an airbag which matches your connectors although I have a feeling that most full can bus wheels came with twin connector airbags (split level detonation for the airbag I belive)...

My airbag was twin plug on the half can 2004 ls for example.

This bad boy will probably fit yor car.... Just check the connectors on your car to make sure

This might even work... but I think the airbag will be usless...

Oh................ Surely if I find a leather four spoke (as in your earlier eBay link), all the connectors, airbag and controls can come from my existing wheel?

If you have the scroll wheels on the steering wheel controls then you will have had a cd30 or above fitted to the car... and the car is full can bus... The links in my first post are all half can bus and WILL NOT WORK in your car... The link in my second post will work for the 3 spoke SRI Wheel. The JVC radio you should have the option for fitting a "patch" lead to make the radio controls work. I have a double din JVC and it fullys works through my steering wheel controls. If you speak to a company like Dynamicsounds etc they can confirm what leads you will need. Either that of have a search on here for full can bus steering wheel leads to find links to ebay etc for cheaper units..

As for half vrs full canbus... Im not sure there is a quick answer to this. Search the site again for details but from memory full canbus uses the same wiring systems to control multiple systems... Half uses some multiple systems on multiple cuircuits and some on independant cuircuits like the raidio etc...
