my gearbox has a hole in it and is making a nasty noise.!!

hi guys took my car to the garage yesterday as my release bearing needed replacing but i was woken up by the mechanic telling me i have a hole in my gearbox i have been to look and i do i knew the car didnt sound/feel right when i last drove it so i need a replacement gearbox whats my best options i really am stuck in the mud now any advice would be much appreciated.

Where is this hole? Do you mean in the casing? Is it a fracture, or a plug missing?

What engine, gearbox?

This is whats come out but i also no some more bits have.
When it first happend my first thought was to get as close to my mates garage as i could but on route there i heard a few bits fall out on the way

Not a clue how its happend but i do no it all happend within 3/5 mile as my release bearing started making the noise it does,i kept driving took a left here a right there ect then there was 2 big clunks i didnt no what had happend so i got to my mates garage and left it there for the night,he phoned me this morning and said i think you need to come have look.

Last but not least itd been an expensive 2 days
