    Default Car won't start

    Heya,

Reading thru this fantastic site and I can't quiet find my problem. Car wont start, engine won't turn over, dash/display flickers.

Warning lights; flashing fuel level light, exhaust gases(not flashing just on) and Engine electronics, transmission electronics, diesel fuel filter, immobiliser light on.

I can hear the fuel pump going after I turn the key to start the car. We've had very cold weather over here, -17, probably a contributing factor. Changed the clutch as well about two months ago, maybe a loose connection?

Jumped the battery, didn't help. Gonna try the pedal trick tomo morning to get the error code if it works on my model:2006 1.9 cdti. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Try a different key. See if you have any joy with that

Tried a different key too, no difference.

Also what I forgot to mention is a problem locking the car. After I try to start it the central locking wont work. It closes all the locks and then immediately opens them all again. So I have to manually close all the locks and then lock the driver door. What about the boot tho, how do i manually lock that?

Whats even weirder is when I came back to the car with a different key, the first thing I checked was to see if I could lock the car, and it worked, Great! But then after to trying to get the car to start, it still wouldn't even with the new key, I couldn't lock the car that moments before attempting to start the car, WORKED!

New update, had a friends mechanic come out and have a look at the car. I wanted to just send it to a garage but why the hell not. He turns the key and straight away says something is wrong with the battery, and he wants to jump it. Thinking to myself "I had ADAC out and they couldn't get it started, this is a waste of time". Lo and behold it starts right up after jumping! My girlfriend said she never seen me so surprised in my whole life! Why would it work now and not before? and who was this guy from ADAC who couldn't get it jumped. I was in work at the time, so my girlfriend was there, crazy. Anyways the battery is being charged as we speak and will be delivered back to us tomo morning at 7. Fingers crossed people. Hopefully my next post will be a final update!

Did sound like a dead battery but no idea why ADAC couldn't sort it. Glad you are all up and running mate! I know how cold it gets over there I was posted nr Celle for 4 years... Miss the snow

The cold weather tends to kill off weak batteries, hopefully a good charge will see you through.

Would be better if you can get it on a de-sulphination charger as quick charging sulphinates the plates and reduces the battery capacity.

Maybe a new battery will be needed....

I went to Braunschweig once for a Off-highway commercial exhibition.

And everything is fine. Battery is fully charged and flying away. Going to get the battery replaced soon to be on the safe side. Really glad how this turned out and very lucky it didn't end up in a garage! What I learned from this is the importance of getting a second opinion and my trust in ADAC is gone way down.

i think the guys jump leads were knackered, or too thin, (we tried jump starting someones car on saturday with thin leads and we had to leave it for a bit for the battery to charge) right from the start lights flickering on cranking is indicative of a low battery, glad its all sorted now.
