    Default Thermo/ Temp issues 2.0DTi

Hi lads, just wondering with any 2.0DTi drivers what temperature is your car at when its up to running temp?

mines seems to sit around 80 degrees, might go to 85 sitting in traffic but that seems low?

i went to a few local motor factors and couldn't get a thermostat in less than 14 days for some peculiar reason, so i got one from a local breakers but it came in the water housing.

does my temperature seem ok or should i change the thermostat?
if it needs to be changed -
can the thermostat be removed from the water housing?
is there a way to test/ examine the second hand thermostat before i fit it?
will i need a new gasket?

anything else i should watch out for while doing the job? i asume im going to lose a lot of coolant?

    thanks in advance

Hi, ours runs around 85c after 10-15mins run, when we put heating on it sits around 82c lovely and hot heaters like, but whether or not the cold weather is to blame, i can have it idle with engine running and engine temp guage doesn't move maybe a bad thermostat/stuck open on ours not sure

just put a new thermostat in mine- yesterday. it now sits at 88 until I put the air con on hi- then it drops tp about 82 but once the cabin is warm it then returns to about 85/86. if its sitting below 80 then its partly seized and will get worse and affect MPG, make the engine run rich and reduce the heat your blower puts out.

I even believe that my gear selection is much smoother/easier since doing it!!! but that one may be my imagination!!!!

and any factors should have the part you need, it's QH part no QTH600k and should cost abot £10 or £11 +fat. it fits almost all GMs for the last 20 years so shouldn't be scarce.

see this is the thing, i've went to quite a few motor factors and nobody has it readily available.

regardless, mine sits happily at 80 for 3+ hours some days. it ever only comes up above 80 if i'm stuck in traffic. if i were to put the cabin blowers onto hot for a few minutes though it would drop right back to 70 degrees, the rest position of the needle.

car runs fine, i worked out my mpg at roughly around 45 so i dont think that is being compromised. car is running fine.

****ing down rain, cant get near the car today
