Methanol (pure alcohol) sprayed into your air intake to act as a catalyst to help your diesel/petrol burn more efficiently.

Can be encorporated into a hydrogen fuel cell too I think

Methanol can't be used directly with a fuel cell, it has to be 'reformed' first into hydrogen - which goes into the fuel cell, and CO2 which is emitted...

BUT, methanol / water mix injected into diesels can increase power output. BUT there are limits and durability issues. Also the need for extra tanks, and extra injection equipment.

Mainly used if seeking extra power as keep intake temps down.

If just seeking more mpg have a search for water boost on YouTube google etc

Diesel engines love water spray as it helps cool temperatures in the cylinders and adds pressure which increases power. Methanol is added as additional fuel mixed with the water or sprayed in neat.

I think petrol engines like water/methanol mixtures to cool boost air from the turbo.

However, the Methanol is highly flameable and burns without a flame, so is dangerous as you cant see it. Its also fairly expensive to use and hard to get hold of. Technically/legally your supposed to carry a warning sticker on the outside of the vehicle if transporting Methanol around.

I use Nitrous Oxide & fuel instead and inject that exactly the same way as you would Methanol (into the air intake). Nitrous Oxide isnt a fuel, its a super cooled accellerant so I still need petrol to mix with it for more power.

I dont really like Methanol as its also corrosive so dont get any on your paintwork, rubbers or plastics.
