    Default Amsterdam

Hi all I'm going Amsterdam next week on holiday (if the flight don't get cancelled from snow) just wondering if anyone who has been before can recommend some places to go?
    Thanks

Bump! Im also goin next week end 4 a short getaway! All I've heard is its a must to experience the red light district and the rules of cafes have changed ( must have a local ID or pass in order to smoke "stuff").
Also smoking normal cigarettes is against the law?????

I think I've been a few times, so my mates tell me anyway. All I can remember is I couldn't find a comfy seat in any of the coffee shops.

when you get through the airport, head for the train station,6euros for 1 way to Amsterdam Central, leaves every 15 mins, takes 20mins to get there, compared to 30-40euros for a taxi
the red light district is a must, but not till its dark, also watch out for the guys peddaling the 'harder stuff' (dont worry, they can spot a tourist a mile off) whilst they are showing you the 'stuff' the pic pockets do their bit whilst you are distracted
as for grass, try the 'greenhouse' not a stones throw away from red light area, ask for 'happy hawaiian'
know its a 50euro fine (on the spot) for drinking in the street
there aint NO public toilets (just things for us men to stand in behind,as the public walk by) as for No2's cafes' HAVE to let you/women use their toilets even if your not eating/drinking on their premises
try the Heiniken, torture & sex museums

enjoy, looks like theres going to be a few members there

    Yeah..

Here's some of the things I did when I was there...

    - Have a good walk around but try not to get hit by the trams, cyclists or cars
    - The floating chinese restaurant by the grand station is quite nice
    - The sex museum is just nuts, have a good look around that
    - Go to Anna Franks house to learn about WW2 and look how small the bricks are that built the house
    - Have a look at the architecture (very narrow houses which lean forwards with hooks at the top to haul your furniture up). To do with Tax laws on ground space.
    - Get a canal barge tour
    - Get a tram ticket and go ride about
    - Walk around the red light district and sex shops
    - Visit some cafe's and try their cakes

I love Amsterdam, I also once hired the Hilton Executive room designed by Yoko Ono. Its where her and John Lennon had their 'Hair Peace, Bed Peace' lye-in in the 1960's on their honeymoon. It has a MASSIVE bed and overlooks the city with glass walls, big hot tub as well

There is so much to do in Amsterdam. Don't just see the red light district - although it is probably a huge attraction. Go at night and there are some shows that will 'surprise' you.....
