    A government warning said that anyone travelling in icy conditions should take a shovel , some blankets or sleeping bag, some extra clothing including a scarf hat and gloves. a 24 hour supply of food and drink,a can of de - icer , some rock salt, a torch and spare batteries. a Safety triangle tow rope , a petrol can and a 1st aid kit - and some jump leads . . . I looked a right **** on the bus this morning !!!

    I've never carried much. Usually have an old blanket/quilt in boot for dogs in case they come for a ride. Thought about buying a folding shovel. Back in the days of rubber floor mats I used to stick them under the wheels if I got stuck.
    Driven through 2ft of snow and blizzards over the years, only once went off road into shallow ditch.
    Put the rubber mats under back wheels (RWD Mk1 Cortina), pulled the manual choke full out and left it to pull itself out of the ditch. Took time but it worked. Shame most are FWD these days, lol.
