    Default 1.8 SRI timing belt

    Hi there chaps
My mate wants to join the Vectra drivers posse and was asking me about a car he's seen in a local dealer (I know I know I warned him).

I asked him about the timing belt (done 80,000) and he says he later mentioned this to the salesperson and they said because it's a "NEWER" Vectra it's to be done at 100,000. it's an 08 1.8 SRi with he thinks a Z18XER engine.

Simple questions 1) is the salesman talking **** and 2) what is the proper interval for the 1.8 petrol engine's timing belt change?

    Thanks
    Stuart

I always thought the timing belt is best changed at 50k to be on the safe side.

CAM belt and timing belt are the same thing just different lingo.

Go back to the dealership and ask to look in that cars owners handbook. It should tell you in there

A timing belt and cambelt are the same thing.

I was under the impression that VX now stated the belt should be done at 80k but most do it sooner.

Your mate should tell them he wants it done as part of the deal. If they won't do it then walk away, there are plenty of Vec's for sale in the country....i'm assuming it's Vardy's

z18xer is 100k or ten years. The z18xer is slightly safer than most as most(not all) seem to break the timing belt because the water pump seizes. The z18xer water pump runs of the AUX belt drive apparently. TBH 80k is is plenty, id definatly change it. Perhaps it could be done as part of the deal.

60k for the Z18XE and 80k for the other 1.8 blocks was what they told me a week back at the dealers. I just bought a complete kit for £50, still need to do get the waterpump though..
