confused What's the latest chav racer car?

I'm 28 and I can remember the days of every boy racer (including me as a yoof!) wanting a bright orange Nova or an Escort Xr3i with TSW Venom wheels, we then moved on to the all conquering chav mobile that was the Citroen Saxo, the car that spawned a million 16v badges. Is there a current equivalent of these cars or not? I struggle to think of the one car that all the chavvy boy racers have now? Is it that there isn't one or that I'm too old and not cool enough to know what it is?

TBH the saxo hasn't died yet and is still there with the Peugeot 106

We seem to have an influx of polo's up here and they are all done euro style.......great fun when they see a big dark coloured vec behind them as they seem to slow down a bit

I guess the 206 took over slightly when the Saxo's stopped being produced and Peugeot have done a good line in hot hatches for decades now, but there doesn't seem to be any one modern car that is intrinsically linked to chavvy boy racers in a way that the Nova and Saxo are.

Clio or little shed of a corsa is what most of the boy racers round here bomb about in.

As Nic has said, in the NE it's usually 172's and 182's. Although I am noticing that they seem to be gwetting a lot of ST's like ST170 Focus and Fiesta ST. God knows how they run em!

I hear ya mate. I took a run through the 'meeting' car park in my town and was surprised to see ST's R32's, VXR's M3's and a lot of highly modded cars. I guess they can afford to mod them when they save a fortune not insuring them.

    Thumbs down

The days of the real boy racer have died...

Nova's with red top engines in...
2.0 lumps stuck into tiny little cars...
Huge 19 inch alloys on a car made for 13's...

Part of me thinks kids can't afford to tinker anymore and the cars are getting to advanced to chop and change. I'm in the Forces and when I came through training there was a group of us with our nice cars... now I'm back at a training regiment and they all strive to have a 1.1 Hyundai kitted out as standard and aren't even interested in the modifying scene! But it wasn't cheap when I was growing up either...

Or has the Xbox literally killed off young lads individuality and sense of fun?

Also a nice car used to mean bucket loads of SEX (I found the in car DVD player to equal an absolute certainty for a quiet **** after the first date)... now people look at a nice car and say 'why do you need a 2.8 litre? What about the insurance? What about the fuel?'...

We are actually turning into Canada! Kids are getting Boring, in no way outrageous (Canadians class a 30 degree corner on a 200 mile highway as a hell raising experience!)

Either that or they are lost to the antisocial victim of society crowd otherwise known as 'wannabe gangsta's' commonly seen on ITV New burning down innocent peoples homes and making out that they are the ones who need sympathy

It's amazing how the Vauxhall Nova kept society running so smoothly

You might right, I was teling the lad at work about sitting on the bonnet of a Uno turbo once, (for traction) whilst it was doing in a burnout

Then he called me an old b****d

I think you've hit the nail on the head. When I had an aspiration for a 4wd red top Nove in bright orange with an obligatory Novadose bodykit and ridiculous 18 inch alloys with under car lighting and deafness inducing sound system I had something to aim for and something to motivate me to get a good job to pay for it. So Mr. Cameron it seems that the lack of a decent Nova replacement has caused the recent riots and general unrest!

I was a little more covert in my understated Fiat Uno Turbo i.e Mk1 (the REAL one!)... looke only slightly 'harder' than a standard Uno, but whipped anything on the road!!!
