    Default Head gasket gone!

Sorry to be a pest guys, coolant problem no end, well finally bit the bullet got the colour test done turned from blue to green.. would of went to yellow no doubt if left longer, just backs up the idea head gasket has went coolant over pressuring.

Does anyone know where a good and hopefully cheap garage is in the teesside area that can do the head gasket, how much would we be looking at, round my town they say £500-600 rough estimates..

Yeah, he also said they a pain to do lol, and that it doesnt rule out a possibility of a cracked head and that diesels never perform right after they have had the gasket done from his experience, kinda scared that they will find more problems when they get under the engine as it didn't really have much of a service history and that's alot of money for us to begin with.. i really don't want to just k-seal it and would rather get it done properly as we like the car it's ideal for us is it a start of a money sink or a decent motor... only had it a few weeks was fine the first week and it seems to have just developed so i really can't say the previous owner had this problem or not who knows

They say that never perform right compression is different an blah blah, just to try scare you out of it.

600 for a garage to do it ain't bad.
Might be worth finding a local engine builders and getting a qoute as they may do it cheaper as they usually get really good prices on gaskets bolts etc. and also they won't need to sub contract it to get skimmed.

How handy are you with the spanners?

Yeah hisss and sigh when i ask lol like it's some bad news to them to do it... luckily my dad has a friend who is good with engines, who said he is going to speak to one of his mates who knows diesel engines better, he can do all sorts of work on petrol but isnt familiar with the diesel engine and wants to know how different it would be to a petrol head gasket, so hopefully his mate says it's not to bad just abit more work... if i can get some instructions or a how 2 on here if i check like torque settings sequence or w/e else is required he would be competent at doing it saving us alot of money.. in the mean time i can get some prices and check the engine rebuilders out good idea.

That's good!! Crich, do you know or have done head gaskets on these before? if you know a list or things that might need to be done differently or some usefull settings that would help him or a guide around this engine i'm sure he would be happy to help, i would appreciated that i really would, cause to be honest i'm not really good with engines myself, wish i was but unfortunately not

No I work on military vehicles

But I have done head gasket on my v6 Cdti
Also done a little corsa for my mrs mate.

Will get you torque settings later on when am on comp.

But Id say go 1 or 2 sizes thicker on gasket it's self. Renew all the head bolts
Cam belt/ chain kit, oil and filter, coolant.

And may want to consider new cam cover gasket, and new inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets.

Quiet a shopping list, but i understand where you are coming from, we really would like it fixed and to change what would be best to change while we are in there doing gaskets, such as water pump and other things you have listed to bring it up to standards as said it's not the best of service history with the car, i know it had a clutch recently done on it, will have to price to parts up and see what is what in the sense i get the correct parts, and hopefully it will be as good as new or wont need anything major for a couple of years at least, thanks Critch appreciate the replies and knowledge.

Remember it doesn't always pay to save money on parts either.

As saying goes buy cheap buy twice.

Might be worth becoming a paid up member on here and getting a trade card.
Vauxhall trade price is usually better than most auto factors anyway. And then got added bonus of knowing its genuine parts so will last
