I have a couple of questions I am going to look at a 2005 signum 1.9dti tonight
1. Its done 54k should the cambelt of been changed?
2. Any problems I should look for ?
3. Do the rear seats fold flat to increase the loading area?

Alright mate. Not sure about the cambelt. Someone will come along and clear that up. The rear seats ford REALLY flat. Nice and neat too. The base sort of moves into the footwell automatically when you drop the back. Pretty smooth. Stuff to check for...... TOYS!! Always check for toys Other than that, just the usual. Rattling suspension bushes, Swirl thingy, Broken springs, DMF (with the window down, bring up the clutch slowly in neutral and see if you can hear a rattle).......
Thanks its an auto elite spec,so i guess its just a case of checking that everything works?
With that mileage i doubt the cam belt etc has been done Vx recomend around 80k... i however would want this doing pretty soon.
If it's the 16v Check the swirl bar area for signs of oil gunk... & make sure the bar is moving.
The cambelt wouldn't have been changed at that mileage as it's not due. They were 100k would you believe before a change, not sure about any revision but most would, having read about this, change around 60-70k for peace of mind.
Most likely needs the usual checking like EGR, inlet manifold and as said swirl bar. All other normal stuff on cars.
Thanks, how do I check the ERG is it how the car idles & the inlet manifold is that for cracks?
No, you're not checking the inlet manifold itself, it's the bar that moves the swirl valves in the manifold. The valves get stuck over time and the bar detaches from one or more of them because it can't move them, and the only solution is to replace the whole inlet manifold - that's what you need to check.
I thought you'd bought a VXR Steve . GSi is still going well
Hi Dave still got the vxr but I am now working in London ! I can't cope with 20 mpg and manual gearbox. Hoping work will pay for the car and I keep the vxr. Glad the Gsi is going well
Hi Guys
Had a look at the signum tonight it all seems fine apart from the temp gauge went out for a 20 min run but the gauge only just reached a below a quarter n the gauge engine got hot and hot air came out of vents. The cam belt and water pump have been replace 2K ago. What do you guys think?
