Default de-cat = very smelly exhaust gases

as above, does a de-cat on a cdti make the exhaust gasses very smelly and very strong ???

reason i ask is that my car has started to smell like a right bad un, stinks to high heavens from the rear and the smell is possibly getting stronger, it's like a mixture of fumes and raw diesel together.... no leaks from exhaust system at all anywhere and after many many looks around i cant see a diesel leak anywhere and the car is running fine, recently had the stat, glowplugs replaced but it's still the same

any help/sugestions would be cool as it's doing my head in big time now ....

    TIA Rich

Yip m8 as the catalytic converter is effectively odour control on a diesel.

Yeah my VXR has got full decat and its stinks.

I have to leave the garage door open for 5 minutes after parkup just to clear out the fumes before I close the garage door. Nasty

And it likes to spit its guts from the rear all over my nice white garage wall. I've had to paint the bottom half of the wall black so you cant see it.

    Nasty.

Maybe people should think about what the cat does before removing it? All that 'nasty' stuff now being breathed in my other road user...... The pram being pushed along the road and the baby closer to tailpipe height..................
