Default gear stick vibrates in 3rd only ??

Hi my vectra chums, I have a vectra 2.2 elegance dti (2004) 112,000 miles working as a taxi...Great bulletproof car but one slightly annoying problem, all the gears are super smooth but when in 3rd gear the gear stick vibrates and make a small vibrating noise in a very quiet car. If I leave my hand on the gear knob the noise disappears altho the vibration ( now vastly reduced ) is still under my hand..Any ideas ??
    Thankyou Tosh.......

So it looks like a trip to the main stealer's, My mechanic is very good but as you say its specialised...
Ive got my mechanic to change the gearbox oil, apparently it only had 0.5 litre's in it...So he has put in 1.9 litre's in...
Also over the last few weeks.. 3rd gear ( when the car is warned up) is a problem to get in,
At first looking on here it looked like g/b oil
I was thinking of very old hydraulic fluid in the system so im going to completely replace the clutch hydraulic oil.
After that Ive run out of ideas..............Many thanks for your reply......Tosh

Sorry Paul, Do you mean there is a plastic shroud that cracks that is inside the leather cover that hides the selector mechanism around the gear lever ?
