    Default Diagnostic session booked

I've been concerned about the way my 1.9cdti 150's running for a little while now (rough idle when cold (sounds as though its miss firing) and slight smell of coolant in the cabin when warm) but yesterday was the straw that broke the camels back when the exhaust fumes began to smell of burning, chemicals/rubber. It's been suggested that the symptoms could be a sign that the head gasket's on it's way out and I should get a pressure test done.

I've not had much luck with local mechanics over the past few years but have found a new mobile mechanic in my area who's coming to do a diagnostics session tomorrow afternoon/evening. Stupidly I've already told him that I'm worried it might be the Head Gasket and not knowing how reputable this bloke is I'm concerned that he's just going to sit in the car for an hour, demand £50 and agree its the Head Gasket so as to make a small fortune out of me.

Should I request to see the results of his diagnostic tests or just trust that he's not going to do me out of a stack of cash? If I should request to see the results, what should I be looking for?

Yeah man, get a copy of the test results. Post them on here. Some Guru will turn up and be able to tell you what's wrong.

I'm kind of hoping that for £50 the bloke who's doing it can tell me whats wrong but I don't know if I should expect to see results, request to see the results or just trust what he says.

At the end of the day mate it's his reputation on the line.
Especially if he's new it's not in his interest to rip you off. And also he's not just going to agree with you. Because what happens when he's done over a full days working stripping and rebuilding for gasket for same problem to be their.

I'd let him get on with it. If he's worth anything hell explain his reasoning behind his thinking for what his thinks his the cause and his findings anyway

The car's really stinking and I'm concerned that something's going to go bang or fall off very soon. Thanks for the offer though.

Diagnostics complete. The only error was the air flow error on the egr (because it's been blanked). That was cleared and nothing else came up. The bloke said it could be smelling because the egr valve's been blanked so more exhaust fumes are being emitted when its cold. The blanking plate is off for the time being to see how the car runs without it.
