    Default Disable alarm?

I have the problem of my alarm going off, fairly randomly (08 Vectra estate).
I'm going to investigate the alarm's batteries, but until then, is there a way of locking the car without setting the alarm? I asked at a Vauxhall garage and they said to lock it with the key but the alarm still might go off.

Reach in though the front passenger door or rear offside door and press the lock button on the drivers door panel (as per the info in the handbook) and exit out the door and close behind you.

Alternately, open drivers window, reach in and press same lock button, then press the close window button and remove arm before window closes.

If you use the key to lock the car, all you'll do is lock the drivers door and set the alarm. The other doors and boot will remain unlocked as using the key won't operate the central locking on a facelift model (also mentioned in handbook)

Also the common fault for the alarm going off on an estate is the rear glass break wire. Try pulling fuse 23 and see if that stops it going off.

OK, thanks for that, but none of that information is in my handbook, and using the key locks all of the doors. Still, worth a try.

And I'll check the break wire too, thanks.

there is a button on the dash (of mine) that i can press if locking a dog, small child, hostage etc into the car. It stops the alarm going off unless a door is opened without a proper remote fob.....
It stops all the afore mentioned escaping without my knowledge lol

Tried that thanks, alarm still goes off though. Looking at other entries it would seem that if it is the alarm's batteries, just disconnecting the sounder and forcing it to use the horn would work until I can do something about the battery. Assuming it's not the glass break wire of course.

Not quite. All that button does is disable the interior movement sensors (ultrasonics)

Ah, Vx must have changed the locking system again then.

This is how it used to be on earlier cars, as in the 53 reg Vec I used to have.

But the 06 Vec I now have only unlocks / locks the drivers door with the key, as per my earlier post above.

With regard to the rest of my advice on how to lock the doors without setting the alarm, I forgot to mention that the deadlocks won't be set.
