    Default Steering wheel wobble..

Got my self a Signum recently, (few days ive had it now, and starting to find a few little issues)

Now, The one that is of some concern is a steering wobble, To me it is quite odd, i know most the general things to check, and ive had some one check these.

I get a slight steering wobble at the speeds from 28 - 32 (ish) then it completly disapear's Not even Noticable.

The wobble re appeared at the speed of 70 - 80 and then again disapear's, Sometimes this is more noticable than other times, There are times if im not thinking about it, i dont even notice it.

    What ive done upto now....

Firstly, i contacted the garage (its only been with me 3 days) They asked me to take the car back to be checked, They checked it, and could find no fault, Took out, Showed them the wobble at both speeds and back onto there ramps (MoT station too) No play in any joints (from what they could see) - Oddly it was against "health and saftey" for me to be near the ramps.

I left, this garage and informed them i would be looking for the issue and would update them with costs etc and if it something they overlooked, they should be liable to pay the costs.

After this, i had the Front wheels balanced, With no joy.
I moved the Back wheels onto the front and balanced, It made a very slight difference (it went less noticable)

The car then went down to a friends (who is an MoT Tester) he checked over the suspension and confirmed, No issues visable/noticable.

We noticed that the 2 front tyres were now not matched, 1 rotational and 1 not. (2 different brands) We changed a rear tyre onto the front for the amtch, balanced, Tracked and again the issue was still there, but slightly better.

I am in the process (this week) of putting new tyres all round, to try and rule out a flat spot, mishshaped tyre or anything similar.

The current tyre tread is 3 - 4mm on Goodyear NCT5s, The MoT station i use (a friend) says, it is possible that this is simply down to the tyres been at low tread though not illegal. Any one got any info on this? Had the issue before?

All Standard Factory fitted alloys seem strait, Balancing didnt need huge amounts of weights, Worst was a 10g.

Any help/advice/tips would be great, Anything i could go check, i would do right away.

    Thanks.

Covered all 3 of them already.

All tyres balanced (move than once, and checked),
Tyres checked - Only low tread that could be an issue, Pressures are correct.
Alloys Checked - No obvious signs

To be fair you should'nt really be in the garage without training and steel toe capped boots if they wanted to be really picky.

You say the balancing has been done. Me and others have found vectra to be VERY sensitive to balancing and MUST be balanced perfectly or slight wheel wobble will appear. I would take it to a independant tyre centre not kwik fit and explain you need your 2 front wheels balanced but it must be perfect as you have a wheel wobble problem and you need to completly eliminate the balancing.

well that is fair, but i was in steel toe caps, and training fair one there. At my friends garage it was on the MoT Ramps which i was able to look at, But yes, They can claim the Health and saftey one.

The balancing has been checked, and checked again today. Balanced up, Took it for a spin, No change, Back on to the balancing machine, all showing 0 - 0.

I can keep throwing money at balancing (at £4.00 per wheel) but i personally dont feel the issue lies in the balancing any more.

    All done.

All things that we went over today, and double check to rule these basic things out.

As my origianl post, Im starting to think its either something not noticable that "wouldnt" be an MoT Failure, or something to do with the tyre tread been low.

Im pretty much out of idea's while the car is on ramps, wheels on, wheels off. and so on.

Just one to try has it got locking wheel nuts on?

Try swapping them for normal nuts. I no its a long shot but I no someone who as a final straw tried that and solved their problems

How clean are the back of the alloys where they meet the hub? The tyres are not filled with anti-puncture sealant are they?
