Default Can i buy a 2.2 Direct that hasnt had the fuel pump changed?

Can i buy a 2.2 direct veccy or signum with no evidence about the fuel pump/regulators being changed or is it too much of a risk?. I spoke to a car dealer on the phone yesterday about a vec for sale and he had no idea what i was on about when i asked is there any receipts etc for the fuel pump/regulator ever being done by vauxhall.
If they have ever been recalled would there be a different make sticker on the fuel pump looking in the engine?
Is it only on the direct models and not the earlier 2.2's 03-05 that i need to check this??

Having seen lots online about people's 2.2 direct's going into limp mode due to dodgy fuel pump/ regulators like on watchdog should i only buy a used model were the owner knows its been replaced?

I have put off buying a vectra for the last 6 months i have been a member on here as my mechanic told me it will be with him more that it will be with me as he is always repairing the diesel vectra taxi's.
But i want one and as i have only been after a black SRI its been slim pickings finding one in good condition with less than 70,000 on it.
So if i go for the 1.8 SRI OR 1.8SRI VVT they wont have any of them problems??

If you get a diesel, make sure you're doing miles in it as if you just tinker round town it will kill it. My 2.2i direct cost over £3000 in repairs in 18 months. I traded for a 150 CDTI which I've covered 80k miles in over 3 years with nothing other than 2 shocker mount bearings failing which cost me £100 to fix. I've given this to my partner and bought another 150 CDTI (both SRI), a far better car with more punch, can drive for 600+ miles on a tank... best cars I've owned.
As there are more 1.9 CDTIs on the roads than probably any other Vectra, then you're bound to hear more horror stories.
Friends of mine have new BMWs and the dealer has them more than they do. Luck of the draw I'd say but in the case of the 2.2i direct petrol,.. Watchdog said it all.
Could also consider the 2.0T which seems to be the best option on here depending on what mpg you're looking for
