    Default lacquer like substance in egr

    just unsized a friends egr 150 bhp and the inside of the egr was covered in a lacquer like paint, jet black looked wet but was dry as a bone and not even dirty to touch. what could it be????

    Can't be many substances getting into the EGR. If a carbon build-up gets really hot, then it will form a shiny lacquer layer - looks almost like black glass. I've seen this in DPFs, where the temperature gets exceedingly high - can't see how this would happen in the EGR though, sorry.

    thats a good description of it,if solinoid on egr was not working would the increased temperature do this, never seen this before but the guy has just had new manafold put on the car 3 weeks earlier and dont want this ******ing it up!!
