    Default Studded tyres - where?

Anyone know where to get them?
I used them in Iceland and they're incredible in the ice and snow.
I've checked the legalities and they're OK as long as you don't chew the road up. They don't; all cars in Iceland have them even in the dry and the roads are ten times better than here.

I had to abandon my car last night it was so bad on the M66. The Passat I had in Iceland would have laughed it off.

Do winter tyres really grip? I was under the impression that in snow they'd only be marginally better than normal tyres.

We used to use studded tyres on LandRovers for ACE Mobile Force when deployed to Norway. On ice and hard compacted snow they're awesome..... HOWEVER - one of the instructor's favourite tricks was to end the training session by driving on a plain tarmac surface..... with studded tyres and no ice/snow it was like driving on ice in slicks !!

Snow and cold weather is the whole point of winter tyres, they grip much better than summer tyres.

Exactly what i'm thinking how much do the mud and snow tyres help.

Don't know if to buy summer tyres and keep mine for next year or just leave them on and hope the car keeps moving in snow on summer tyres next year

They are great, you can drive at speed and not worry unlike snow chains.
I can't say I had a problem in Reykjavik's dry road with studs though, everyone uses studs there, all year around.

Well if I can't find a set of studs I may have to go for winter.
Ideally I'd like to buy a set of rims and stick studs on them for winter use.

What about snow shoes? They appear to work to get you out of problems?
