Exclamation Help, I keep pulling off my knob!

    Hi everyone,

I need some help... I keep pulling the knob off the (manual) gear lever. I can't see what is meant to hold it on. Can anyone help please?

I think I'm right in saying that they are bonded or glued on matey. A few guys on here have changed their 'knobs' so they'll know more.

Here's a photo of my knob and its mount:

There doesn't seem to be any traces of glue, so I'm guessing it's just an interference fit... but hopefully I'm wrong.

I think you'll find that it's just hammered on, those splines on the lever shold be just a fraction larger than the internal dimension of the knob, so when hammered on it'll stay there no glue needed. Normally it's on so hard that it takes a bit of effort with a hacksaw to remove it! Take this as an opportunity to do an easy upgrade to an Irmscher knob

You're right mate, no traces of any glue etc. It must be an interference fit then.

EDIT: As above mate, go and get yourself the Irmy one.

Hmmm... sounds like there's just not enough overlap between the two. Maybe temperature has something to do with it? (It's been ~35 degrees here for the past few days) I might have to glue it back on.

Ha ha Actually I'm quite happy with the existing knob. Thanks for the suggestion though.

BTW, in case anyone was wondering, it's quite disconcerting when your knob falls off while changing gears

PMSL @ this thread. Normally it's the other way round, people cursing 'cos they can't get their knob off easily to put on the Irmscher one and here's Steve, who's knob pops off at the slightest touch!! (Ooer missus!!)

There's nothing worse than interference with your knob.
