Default Silencer from 1.9cdti on to a 2.0DTi

    Hello

I have aquired a back box from a 1.9cdti and am wanting to fit it on my dti, I thought it would be a straight swap but upon looking and taking my back box off, the pipe on mine is wider, hows best to get it fitted, but I know no one with a welder as I was thinking of swaping the pipes over that connect to the centre section.

    Thanks

I've just sold my welder too, bummer. I'd have done it for you otherwise.
If you have an angle grinder with a 1.6mm disc you could cut two 4" or 5" long slats either side of your tube. This will allow you to sleeve the back box onto your pipe (ooer)
Then use one, or maybe two, exhaust clamps to squeeze the two together. Not perfect, but works in a pinch.

The alternative is to measure the ID diameter of your pipe, go to a machinist and have them cut and shut a pipe with a matching OD pipe to the back box. Probably cost a tenner, if that.

Well the outer diameter of the 1.9 back box is 48mm, just never measured the inner diameter of the pipe already on the car as was in a hurry to get it back on as had to go out.

Just take it to a fabricator, they'll sort you out. It's a very simple job.
It'd only take me 20 minutes with a welder.

Well I set to work this morning fitting it as I ended up using some Holts Gum Gun silencer fix kit. Basically you get a length of sheet ally and some white fiber substance. I just cut the sheet ally in half down the length and wrapped a peice of the white fiber round the tube then wrapped the sheet ally round that. I had to cut 2 slits in the tube of the middle section of exhaust, it was abit of a pain to get the silencer inserted into the middle section but finally went in and tightened up the exhaust clamp and finished the job off. I could only get 1 exhaust rubber on so just strapped the other side up and set to cutting the bumper trim which I had to cut in steps to get it to look sort of ok, its not the best of cuts but it will do until I get time to tidy it up.
