Question Ever replaced an outer CV joint?

I have a clunking sound when pulling off my driveway on a hard left turn at slow speeds. Its fine during normal driving.. I have checked the outer CV joint and its split so obviously leaked out all the grease..

Has anybody ever changed the outer CV joint by themselves before..? I am wondering whether to give this go myself or book into an indy to have it done its to much of pita..

dealer prices for the part/kit alone are £259.20 and I am not keen on that price plus labour as you can imagine..

Never done a Vec before but have done other cars. Usually just a case of wheel off, crack off the big nut on the end of the driveshaft, break apart bottom ball joint from hub and pull hub away from the driveshaft, remove CV boot and clean away the grease to reveal a circlip, widen circlip and the CV joint should come away from the end of the shaft. Check the size of the nut at the end of the shaft before starting this job as the last time I did this I needed to borrow a 32mm socket.

well nowhere has any in stock for my car, it shares this part number with a few other models though.. its an order only part from everywhere i have decided i have nothing to loose by buying from that ebay link at £23 delivered..

I will just have to do it on my drive one evening during the week.. If its not too dark i will try and make a How2 to for it if i remember to take pics, but it may be a little cold for that..

Definately got circlip on inner joint, and I would be very surprised if there were none on the outer joint.
