Default How to Keep Car in Tip Top Condition?

Just become the owner of a 2005 pre-facelift veccy 1.8 petrol with 52,000 on the clock.

I've recently been made redundant and job offers aren't exactly flooding thru the door so I've got to do as much maintenance work to the car myself.

Anybody suggest a few things that I can do myself to make life easier for the old girl's engine, brakes etc?

Whilst trawling thru the threads I've noticed that EGR's can be troublesome; do they benefit from taking off and cleaning?

If the car is working well leave it alone, apart from routine maintenance. If something goes wrong or does not feel righttry to have it sorted straight away. Hope that helps and you have many happy miles of motoring.
