    Default Gsi decat

I've owned two Mondeo v6 st24s and and replaced the main cat with a decat pipe and saw good results on the dyno and mot emmisions were not affected. Is this the same with the Gsi? The two pre-cats will remain.

If the CDTI is anything to go by it's the pre cats which do the bulk of the restricting but I can't be utterly sure about the 3.2.

The 3.2 is the same, you can decat the main cat as long as the pre's stay and it passes emission fine. Although arn't the new regs going to stop all this even oil burners? If I remember rightly a physical decat is out of the question now even if emission are fine.

As above yes can remove the main cat fine and will still pass emissions due to the 2 precats remaining. though these cause most of the restrictions not the main you may gain a few bhp and abit of noise but will lose a fair bit of midrange torque also new MOT regulations state that any exhaust system minus factory fitted cats (pass emissions or not) will fail so if your going to do it get a fabricator to make the pipe flanged so you can remove and refit for MOT

Somebody out there is selling decat pipes that look like catalytic converters. The new MOT regs do indeed prohibit removal of any catalytic converter, even if emissions are not affected.

But the emissions WILL be affected, otherwise why is it fitted in the first place if it does nothing?

TBH, the machines at MOT stations are a bit of a joke. When you talk about REAL emissions measuring kit that cost hundreds of thousands of pounds it makes the MOT tester machine look a bit pathetic.

Anyway, I am glad that the MOT will include a check for the removal of standard fit emissions reducing devices, as I think it is immoral to remove them.
Removing the guts may actually decrease performance as the expansion and contraction of the exhaust gas in the 'can' may increase backpressure and can actually be worse than having the cat fitted......
