Service time next week and am going to change the fuel filter, but I hear you can have problems with car starting afterwards. Its a 2.0 DTI so what do you reckon I should do to give the car the easiest possible start.

ive never had any problems take fuel pump fuse out run car till it dies turn over a couple of times and remove fuel filler cap. change filter, cap back on fuse bak in turn ignition on and wait till the pump has primed should start straight away
Fill the filter housing to brim with fresh fuel put top on and fill through hole until poor out. Tighten down. And then should start ok.
Buy the fuel primer tool, saves soo much hastle.

How often would you change the fuel filter??
Change mine every 6/7k with engine oil but every 10-15k should be ok
I change mine every 12 months when I do my annual full service
