confused newbie asking newbie question :-)

Hi guys, i currently have a astra and i'm thinking of getting a vectra. I was first thinking of a 2.2dti but i have since heard that they arn't the best of engines, so i am now thinking of a 1.9cdti.
Question is do they have a m32 box or a f40 gearbox? And if they do have the M32, do they have the same problem as the astra's in stripping the teeth if you boot it to hard.
I'm guessing they have the dual mass fly aswell :-(

As far as I can see gavatron you'll have your headaches no matter what Vectra you buy. That's why when this forum takes an off day we are all pulling our hair out!!lol

hmmm.... dont know where you'v heard that the 2.2 dti lump is a dog cos it wasnt on here thats for sure!..

the 2.2 dti is a pretty good engine imho... mine has got 112k on it and does 40mpg round town and 55 ish on a steady run.

2.2's tend to be cheaper to buy than the 1.9's too !

Buy a 1.8VVT, more reliable then the diesels, no DMF, EGR swirl bars etc to go wrong, still develops 140 bhp and can crack over 40 mpg on a run!

I think you stand a better chance of winning the National Lottery than getting a good one!

That was going to be my next question. 'Are petrols more reliable?'

I've never had a diesel before and liked the idea of paying very little road tax, although i am lucky if i do 6k miles a year, but the old swirl flaps and DMF are putting me off incase i get a crap one.

If you only do 6k a year then it's not enough to make it worth buying a diesel; yes they do go wrong a bit more than the petrol engines, because of all the extra gubbins they have to have clean up emissions or boost the BHP.
