Default Petrol & Diesel price gap

Anybody else noticing the widening gap between petrol & diesel prices and more importantly wondering WHY ?

Recent quote off the AA's Trust...
"The AA Trust’s Fuel Price Report for October shows that a litre of diesel costs 92.1 pence per litre compared to 86.6 pence per litre for petrol, a difference of 5.5 pence per litre. The previous highest margin was in January 2005, when the difference reached 5.2 pence per litre. Throughout last year, the petrol-diesel price difference averaged 4.1 pence per litre."

Have to agree with you there Harry.

Can anyone else sense another display of power from the haulage companies?? I know there's new laws in place about blockades etc, but I'm sure there's more displays of public power they can do.

What annoys me is the fact that oil companies actually have to do alot less in terms of refining the crude, to turn it into Diesel.....It's just Gordon Brown stinging us Motorists AGAIN!!

******, Car Tax, Fuel prices, and to top it all I've got Red Ken's Congestion Charge...I might aswell set up a poxy Direct Debit to fund his Taxi account...

I signed up to petrolprices.com a while ago as they're after getting a fuel discount card for members. I've put their window sticker in the wife's car as well.

can't remember the name of it now but has anyone signed up to that discount fuel card that a company is trying to setup. basically it was a massive partnership scheme. they've been trying to get it released for ages now.

i'm sure it had either line or pipe in the name of it. d@mn that's going to bug me!

Diesel in the UK is more expensive because its low sulphur rather than no sulphur like the rest of Europe.

The fuel is cheaper to refine but is then de-sulphurised and part re-sulphurised pushing the production costs up. Coupled with this there is no duty relief on Diesel in the UK. The rest of Europe have seen sense and lowered tax on diesel so that they still have a road transport industry in 10 years time.

Here in Germany, diesel is roughly 10p per litre cheaper than petrol.
