Where you live doesn't help. I have a Liverpool postcode and get hammered every time.

Try brokers
Adrian Flux, Sky, Chriss Knott etc.
If you are young , with little to no NCB with a high risk post code it will be hard to get the premiums cheap.
Who do you have on your policy? Add as many women as named drivers as you can.
The Vec can be a costly car to insure. I'm 40 with a 150 CDTI currently paying nearly £600 in a low risk group B insurance area, I'm squeaky clean, no points or convictions and have a female and my father on the policy too...
If you're young I suspect it's going to be a hard job
Assuming your profile is correct and you're in Widnes (with a WA postcode) you're in an insurance risk C area (A=low risk, F=high risk) so a medium risk. To be getting such high quotes, you must have a combination of no NCB, little or no driving experience, recent claims, under 25 years old.
Iv been with admiral for years so now with no problems. Since I was 18 I had a 1.8 16v astra saloon TPF&T was under a grand but has come down quick since then every year. At 21 I had an import mr2 turbo with declared mods which was cheaper than the astra 3 years before! For the first time I have gone fully comp with my signum 2T design and protect my 7years NC and I payed 915quid, not a great postcode either.
It is always best to phone them up and get a quote direct, I was getting much higher quotes through comparison sites. Best of luck!
