Default How often do you check

How often do you check your oil on a 1.9 CDTI engine, and how much do you have to top it up by ?

I check all my fluid levels once a week and additionally before any long journeys. Not a 1.9 but I would do this with any engine. The car hasn't used any oil whatsoever in 3000 miles.

The 1.9 CDTi is a fairly "tight" engine. If its using oil, the oil is too thin. Change to 5W-40 fully synthetic.

5w40 is what i put in i think its going to need another drink soon as its done 14k now and last time it wanted some black stuff was 7k so its going to have used almost 3 litres between services ! the mondeo used 5w30 and never used a drop between dealer visits , but then they were only 12k

I think you'll probably find it'll get less thirsty with a few more miles on it. The cylinder bores are probably still very smooth and shiny. Giving diesels a good thrashing at least once a week certainly doesn't do them any harm either. If they're driven too gently from new they can use a bit of oil.

Much the same here with the 2.2 DTi I've got. Done 63500 miles and i've not put a drop in it.
