Not starting just clicks!

Got a 56 Sri and have a problem with starting.On several occasions when I go to start the car all I get is a few clicks,starter doesn't turn.On trying another couple of times the car then starts.It feels like a duff battery but wondered if it could be related to the immobiliser?this usually happens in the colder mornings but has happened when engine warm also.In the past when my cars have shown this clicking they have never started until charged but as this car is starting not sure what the issue is.anyone experienced this.?.

Classic symptoms of a duff/flat battery. If it was immobiliser you'd get a padlock symbol on the dash and it probably wouldn't even let you get as far as the clicking noise. Battery needs charged/tested/replaced.

i doubt its immobiliser because it would turn over and not fire. sounds like battery to me, put ya headlights on and see what happens when you turn the key, if your lights go dim then its your battery if not you could have a sticky starter solenoid

Sounds like starter solenoid is failing to me.

Have you got a multimeter?

What voltage are you getting across bat? What you getting whilst its clicking?

Cold weather short journeys .. Heating on full everything switched on to the max amp drain ... Classic symptoms of a flat battery / duff cell in the battery = time for a new one

Flat battery defo i had the same problem year before last

Thought so, but car already checked by dealer,no problem!,booked back in for next week will get them to check battery as well as sorting couple other issues

Starter solenoid as stated above - you would have had more problems if battery that bad ie, power steering failure,etc

I had the same problem a while back. Turned out I had a bad earth on my starter motor, might be worthwhile checking all the connections
