confused New Hatch Release switch, but still problems.

Estate boot release switch so i thought faulty, hatch opened but wouldn't shut.
I replaced with a new one, still has the same problem, a right pain to shut. I keep having to depress the switch 10/20 times until i hear a click, then the hatch will shut. Now shut completely, but ''hatch open'' warning symbol on dash
So i daren't open the hatch in case it wont close again and the dash warns me it's open when it isn't!

    Help please, i'm stuck.

    Cheers
    Paul.

Would think the release is incorrectly aligned

Maybe the micro switch at the catch at fault?

hang on a tick, i THINK your talking about an automatic opening tailgate correct?

got the warning open light on another car which i will be working on at some point and as DasArab said above the microswitch which is built into it could be faulty, but a new latch assembly is circa £300 or so. Think it needs to be checked by a 2nd person before you go shelling out for more parts tbh..

It's the catch where you just gently push it in and the boot releases open. It's happened before and a new micro switch/rubber push switch(£24) sorted it. Just this time a new micro switch hasn't sorted it.
Plasma, the hatch release switch just bolts in with 2 8mm's so not sure on how to align it different, any tips would be great.

Not sure if it's called the automatic opening tailgate. With the inner panel off, there is just the release switch bolted in and then the latch assembly screwed in with 3 hex screws.

I've removed the latch assembly and WD40'd it, reassembled and now the warning light is off and for now the hatch opens and shuts, not sure if i trust that for too long though.

    Cheers.
