Are you having trouble with it buddy?

I only ask asI have the same car, year, gearbox and I took it to vx for an oil change and they said they didnt want to touch it if I wasnt having any problems with it. At the time I had 49k miles...

Then a few weeks ago I contact an auto box specialist local to myself whom seemed to have alot of knowledge and experience with the vectra auto box. He to confirmed what vx said, if no probs dont worry. But he said he was happy to lighten my wallet £150 if i felt the need.

My conclusion was if 2 companies during the hard times were having refusing custom and money then maybe there right. Famous saying why fix something thats nor broken.
He did say if I feel the gearchange is clunky or drags to give him a call and book it in.

thanks for the response mate there is nothing wrong as such its hard to explain it just dose not feel right it dose seem to drag at times and sometimes if you pull off to fast the gearbox confuses its self and wont go into the correct gear the only way to reset it is to pull over and turn the car off then on

    mine is at 71k now

Vx told me the same thing. Car now on 71,000 miles. Not like the garage I use to want to turn away work.

Some people on here have mentioned should be changed every 40,000 though.

Vx's reasoning that opening it up to change the oil can result in foreign bodies entering the system. In other words, if it works ok, then don't touch it.

Vauxhall dealers never recommend changing the oil on an auto, because there's no specified interval. If, however, the gearbox packs up totally with a fault that could have been prevented had the fluid been changed when the symptoms were still minor, they're quite happy to replace the whole box and bankrupt you in the process.

Not replacing the ATF in the autoboxes is going to lead to problems, mainly because the stock ATF cooling in the Vectra's is so very poor. This means the fluid degrades and burns very easily, by getting too hot.

Mine is on 78K and it's had 3 full ATF changes/flushes (that I know of), and an aftermarket cooler fitted (at 30k), and my autobox runs as good as new. I've also recently fitted a magnefine filter just for extra protection, and will do another full flush next year.

Sorry to drag this thread back up again Scotty84 - Just wondered if you could remember where that was please?? Mine has started playing up - It had a small drip leak that i was told was oil 6 months ago - co-incidentally it was only last week when up on the ramps i noticed that it wasnt oil - it's transmission fluid - And tonight the box starts playing up (started to get issues changing gear, snatching etc,.). I suspect it's running low on fluid!

Daily commute into Birmingham, so anywhere in the midlands that knows what they are doing are a good bet in my book

    Cheers
    Paul
