    Default cat problem!

    hi peeps!
ive had error codes for no change in emmisions or something like that anyway first thought was o2 sensor so i changed the sensors pre and post! light still came on. it comes on about every 200 miles stays on till reset it.

I've now came to the conclusion it must be the cat on its way out! i shone a torch through where the o2 sensor goes and could see some of the honeycomb stuff looks collapsed. im not too bothered as i can now upgrade without the missus moaning

anyway before i spend on a sports cat i was thinking of bashing the guts out of the cat.
    2 questions:
1: is there much performence gain from doing this

2: how would i get the EML to stay off after doin this coz it gets on my tits and dont think i could put up with it being on all the time.

i know an mot guy who would pass it on emmisions so no worries there.

Effectively, you won't be able to keep the light off if you bash the catalyst out, as it will flag up on the efficiency being too low.

Also, bashing the catalyst has quite serious health issues - as they contain poisonous compounds..... and you will pollute everyone with your excessive emissions, causing immeasureable issues for the people who are unfortunate enough to be forced to breathe in your toxic fumes - eg Carbon Monoxide, benzene and unburnt hydrocarbons etc.
The performance gains won't be that big for the 1.8.

Sell the cat to a reclaimer and buy a new one, realistically it is the only way to get the light off.

But, they didn't have a cat fitted as standard. I just don't agree with removing standard fit emissions control devices. And modern cars have been setup ASSUMING there is one.

Bit of a bug bear of mine.... - as I used to develop emission reduction devices for heavy duty and car engines.

Also ensure you get a quality Sport CAT as all the places I called prior to having my system at MIJ done told me I would need to sign a disclaimer as the 100/200 cell cats would fail the emissions test on MOT.

I know others who have had no issues but they have paid for expensive replacements. I tried powerflow, long life, MIJ to name a few and all said they would fit one, but I would need to sign this disclaimer as there is no sport cat for the vectra 2.0T.

    Apparently!

Either way you will still fail so what's the point? Either do the job properly or don't lol that's the way I look at things.

You can buy a 100/200 cell sport cat for little over £100. But the places told me the, selves good luck getting it thought the mot.
