You would need a remap to make the most of it. Bit pointless without it. isn't that the turbo from a saab areo hot? I think Dez (admin) had thought about one for his old 2.0T

I think on a standard 2.0T it is possible to just switch the turbo over (will need to clarify) although the turbo will produce no additional power.

The water and oil line are also different between the TD04 and Garret turbo, so you will need to upgrade those also.

To gain the best from the turbo you will need to uprate the injectors and then have it mapped - I suggest you get this done at the same time.

neo Brothers is the place to speak to.

in short yes you would, the ecu needs to be told what its new parameters are so you can get the benefit of the bigger turbo, otherwise you will feel no real difference.

I upgraded mine from the Garrett to a td04 and ran it until the new map arrived (one week). My td04 was even bigger and more powerful than the 14T but it still needed the new map before it knew what to do with it.

As stated above and by me in a previous post you would need the 381cc injectors as well to go with it.. Its a shame your so far away or a few of us could help you fit it all.

Do these engines have an electric coolant run-on pump to keep coolant circulating after the engine has been switched off?

So I either assume that you let the engine idle for a while before shutdown, or the system will auto syphon the coolant around for a while after shutdown?

Replacing the turbo with something completely different may upset this thermal syphoning effect and, if so, may reduce turbo life. Just something to be careful of when shutting down after a fast journey (eg pulling into motorway services) - always best to idle the engine for a couple ofminutes to allow the heat to dissipate from the turbo. - you really don't want to bake the oil in there.....
