Default Headlight washers don't pop out

I just had my front bumper re-sprayed. Once I put everything back, I noticed that the headlight washers don't pop out when activated. When activated, water comes out from them but the plastic cover remains in closed position, so water just runs over the bumper.

    Have I missed anything?

It's a facelift model (2007) with factory fit washer system.

    Any help is highly appreciated.

Have you tried to pull them out manually? Is it possible that there is now too much friction for them to come out becuase of excess paint?

Yes they come out manually (with lots of pulling power), the plastic covers are removable and where not painted along with the bumper.

Take them out and give them a dam good clean and then a light greasing, possible just a build up of muck?

Yes, I suspect salty water and also have not been used almost half a year. I will try some WD40 and see how it goes.

    Thanks
